The most durable and capable Defender yet, Evans conquered steep rocky trails and slippery muddy tracks with ease. Take a look at Evans in action behind the wheel of his Defender 90, and discover how its all-terrain abilities gave him absolute confidence to take on the most challenging conditions.

We caught up with Sam to learn more about his epic weekend and why he can’t go past the Defender 90 for off-road adventures.
 

Q: Where did you take your Defender 90?
 

A: Around an hour and a half drive from my home on the Gold Coast, is an epic 4WD Park called Scenic Rim Adventure Park. The drive there itself is beautiful. After only 30 mins on the freeway, you go from beachy coast vibes to rural Queensland landscapes with old school windmills and horse ranches a plenty! This entire region is perfect for road tripping, with plenty of stunning views along the way.
 

Scenic Rim Adventure Park is a 695 acre property with nearly 100 different 4WD trails ranging in different difficulty and skill levels. They also have a bunch of different campsites which are super affordable and have incredible views. My pro-tip if you can swing it is to go during the week. You pretty much have the whole place to yourself and can choose any site you like the look of! Wendy the owner was so helpful and made sure to point us in the direction of all the best trails. 
 

Q: What were some of the highlights of your trip?
 

A: On our first morning 4WD'ing, we took what looked like an "innocent" trail which quickly turned into the steepest, rockiest track I've ever driven (our drive computer was telling us it was a -30° decline!). We parked up at the top and walked it out, identifying tricky spots and best routes. We then flicked the Defender into low-ratio gearing, switched to rock crawl mode, dropped our tire pressures and proceeded to conquer this mammoth rock hill!
 

If I'd stood at the bottom of that track first and looked up, I would have been certain that it was impassable. Now standing at the bottom looking up, it really hit home just how capable my Defender really was.
 

Q: What are your favourite features of the Defender 90?
 

A: I drive a MY22, Defender 90 X, in Carpathian Grey with a contrasting black body kit, which is by far my favourite Defender I've ever driven. Some of my favourite features are:
 

The Expedition Roof Rack - the only drawback to the 90 is your limited cargo space, which is why the Expedition Rack is a MUST for me! Having a platform instead of two traditional roof racks gives you infinitely more tie down options when it comes to loading up bulky items such as tents, YETI's and chairs.
 

Electronic Air Suspension - this makes it all possible! When 4WD'ing (especially over rocks and creeks), Electronic Air Suspension lets you select from an access height of 40mm below normal ride height or an extended height of up to 75mm for extreme off-road conditions. This was a game changer when tackling the rocky trails.
 

Clear Sight Ground View Camera - this camera mode takes the imagery from in front of the car, then processes it as you're moving to show you a view of what is under your bonnet. This was super helpful on the tighter tracks where we needed to avoid driving into deep ruts and couldn't see what was directly in front of us. 
 

Q: How did the Defender 90 allow you to elevate your adventure and ‘embrace the impossible’?
 

A: It will never cease to amaze me how this vehicle so effortlessly blends into urban landscapes, yet when taken into the wild, comes alive and navigates the outdoors with ease and class. The Defender 90 is such a dream to drive off-road, I feel like the short wheelbase and lighter chassis make a huge difference when in sticky situations.
 

Whilst I've done a good amount of off-road driving, I would by no means call myself a "pro". Not once on this adventure did I feel like the car couldn't handle what we were doing, and the intelligent technology inside the vehicle took all the usual stresses away from the experience and let us focus on the adventure at hand.
